What Are the Precautions to Be Taken While Using the Linear Guideway?

Understanding the linear guideway

Linear guideways can be divided into: roller linear guideways, cylindrical linear guideways, and ball linear guideways. They are used to support and guide moving parts to perform reciprocating linear motion in a given direction.

Linear guideways can be classified into sliding friction guides, rolling friction guides, elastic friction guides, and fluid friction guides according to their friction properties. Linear bearings are mainly used in automated machinery, such as imported machine tools, bending machines, laser welding machines, etc. Of course, linear bearings and linear shafts are used in matching pairs. Linear guideways are mainly used in mechanical structures with high precision requirements, and the moving and fixed elements of the linear guideway do not use intermediate media, but use rolling steel balls.

The basic function of the fixed component (guide rail) of the linear guideway system is similar to that of a bearing ring, which is a bracket for installing steel balls and has a "V" shape. The bracket covers the top and side faces of the guide rail. In order to support the working parts of the machine tool, a set of linear guideways must have at least four brackets. For supporting large working parts, the number of brackets can be more than four.

Precautions for using the linear guideway

With the rapid development of industry, the demand for guides is also increasing. For the machinery industry, normal operation of equipment and production lines is crucial. However, in many cases, equipment failure causing stoppage is a common phenomenon, and the probability of equipment not operating normally due to guide problems is very high. Improper use of the guides is the most common cause of problems. Therefore, what precautions should be taken when using linear guideways?

  • Prevent rust: When taking the linear guideway directly by hand, fully wash away the sweat on your hands and apply high-quality mineral oil before operating, and pay special attention to preventing rust in rainy and summer seasons.

  • Keep the environment clean: Keeping the linear guideway and its surroundings clean, even if microscopic dust is present, can increase wear, vibration, and noise of the guide rail.

  • Careful and meticulous installation: When using and installing the linear guideway, do not allow strong punching, direct striking of the guide rail with a hammer, or transmission of pressure through the rolling element.

  • Proper installation tools: Use appropriate and accurate installation tools for the linear guideway, and try to use special tools as much as possible, avoiding the use of fabrics and short fibers.
